My wife's van has a triangle with an exclamation point in it showing on the dash. I don't have access to the owner's manual and all I've been able to find online is that it is a safety alert. Does anyone know what this indicator means?

Low tire pressure
Low fuel
Low washer fluid
Low coolant
Low battery voltage
A door is ajar
The parking brake is still engaged
Headlights have been left on
The fuel cap is loose or missing

Wow, it seems like everything is very important or you left the door open? That is kinda nutty.

Shoot.... even my lowly '01 Ford Windstar had a separate light for the gas cap.

Dumb idea on Toyota's part.

It's not...the oil was changed last July, and it only has had about 3K miles put on it (if that much) since then...the requirement is to change it every 10K or once a year, whichever comes first...

I'm thinking one of the doors isn't fully closed, or one of the tires is low on air....the van is too new for any of the other things on the list to be the likely culprit...

You'd think for, whatever this van cost, they could have put in a simple 2x16 LCD that could scroll across it what the problem is. Might even be cheaper than having a dash full of lights, with a light per possible issue. Just have two or three lights, one each for trivial/minor/major/catastrophic levels of warning.

Meh, if it was important it'd be a red light. Yellow means proceed with caution. Like, proceed until it turns red. I'd ignore it. [Perhaps because it's not my van.]

On new Toyotas with the instrument cluster LCD, it will simply say Oil Maintenance Required for OCIs or service.

The master warning lamp would have a message accompanying it. On the first iteration of the system(Prius), the master warning lamp will come on and a message will be displayed on the top of the main LCD.

Did you reset the oil life monitor when the oil was last changed? If you did not, it could now be showing that the oil needs changed even if it does not.

It's not uncommon in cold weather to have the PSI drop in the tires to have this light come on. Check the tires first. Also-if a full size spare does it have a sensor as well?

One light for all the above-no big deal. It would take all of 5 minutes to narrow the list down.

A lot of people give too much credit that the Oil Life monitoring is smart.
It is just a matter of when it was reset last + the standard mileage for the oil change.

It does not know when the last oil change was unless it was reset.

Yes, but only to someone who is "car smart"... Like most of us here.

Of all the girlfriends, lovers and 1 wife I have had in the past... 1, (maybe 2) would think to do what you just said to do. Not in 5 minutes, either.

Don't know. The oil was last changed by the dealership...

Yes I also think it's something simple like this....

It seems many think a car's warning system should do everything for you:

Identify the precise fault and what the risks are of continuing to drive
Tell you where you can go for the part/service including cost/availability at a minimum of 5 sources
What the service provider will charge for the job
When they have an opening with loaner car available
Any other services that might soon be due on your car to piggyback on this latest fault

Anything else a car's computerized warning system should do for us?

That's the thing though, the Sienna does. The information the OP wants is on the screen in the dashboard. You just have to look at it.

So OP, read the LCD rearview camera for the issue causing the light. Also, it's naive to think just because the oil was changed the technician reset the oil life monitor.

Source: I own one.

It does have exactly that. I assume the OP is not looking at the light, because it's plainly obvious if you are in the car.
