So, they gave it their award, which was not limited to new car models like some awards.

Oh yeah, they mentioned that the Focus automatic transmission with all those speeds they were impressed with, had weird shifting behavior. But, it was a new model, so they were SURE Ford would sort it out before full production. So, it got the award.

I thought to myself, yeah, I've owned Fords, that transmission won't get sorted out, at least, not this model year. And, it wasn't.

Buying public don't red car magazines, they bought more Corolla than any other compact make/model.

And for good reason because the car magazines give horrible purchasing advice if you care about your money and long term car reliability.

Every manufacturer makes mistakes but some don't correct them even when the problem continues to exist....he's just pointing this out... I find American car manufacturers to be more guilty of this....

In other words, Ford should throw the towel in on their manu-matic and go back to a regular A/T (with a TC)....just like GM should have re-engineered their gaskets long before losing so many customers because of it....

They've all done it from time to time.

Yeah, I don't think it's emblematic of any one manufacturer. Honda had many years of bad automatic transmissions before finally getting them sorted. They've stuck with VCM for so long (through two different VCM generations now), you'd think they'd finally have it right. Maybe they do, but some see the risk as too big. I probably would not buy a Honda with a VCM valvetrain. Shame, because I adore the V-6 it's bolted to.
