2014 X3 N20 2.0 Thoughts after 13k

Do yourself a favor and buy oil filters made by the supplier of oil filters to BMW. Aftermarket filters seem to disintegrate on BMW engines. I buy only MANN oil filters for y car. Try FCP Euro for your bimmer parts.
I am only one data point, but the plain-Jane Microgard oil filter that I changed in my wife's 2020 X3 over the weekend looked fine after 6500 miles of city driving. Also, the Microgard from my 535d looked a little tired but was otherwise intact after 9k all highway miles.

I understand. I’m not trying to state that all aftermarket oil filters are unsuitable for BMW engines. What I am saying is that some BMW owners have reported that aftermarket oil filters have failed. I have owned and worked on bimmers since 1974. Yeah, I’m old. I’ve always bought filters from either the dealer or from FCP Euro. Saving a couple of dollars to buy a filter-air, fuel, oil, cabin-that may or not up to factory specs isn’t a bargain I want to make.

Off my soapbox.

Nice I hope it all works out! Those aftermarket warranties and beyond difficult to get reimbursed. I hope it never needs it.

My friend sai the same thing. He went through 3 other companies that he won't work with. The one he got for me, he's had good luck with over the last 5 or 6 years.

So assume you are also aware that the N20's have been recently recalled by NHTSA due to fire risk?

PCV blow-by (why is this leaking in the first place?? 🤔) leaking onto the water pump's electrical connector. Keep an eye out for smoke under the hood!

Not so good to assume on that one. I was not aware. Thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Wonderful vehicles. I really like what BMW does with this little SUV. You also priced well within reason - got a good deal on it, and the 3 year warranty fell within your price point.
