Hello,

I need some advice, I have a 2014 Silverado with the G80 3.42 differential. I have about 20k miles on it and would like to change the front and rear diff. The front calls for 80w-90 non synthetic and the rear calls for 75W-85 synthetic. After much reading it sounds like I can use a synthetic in the front, should I stick with 80w-90 or just go to 75w-90 as I park outside all winter. Also, as far as the back I can't find many options for 75w-85, is it safe to use 75w-90? They recommended 75w-90 in 2013, I know that 2014 had a lot of changes but I can't find anything that says the differential changed to indicate it needs 75w-85. My understanding is that it's a CAFE thing. Anybody have info on that?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Ryan

75w90 for both and call it a day. Come back in anothe 50 to 80k for a follow-up.

Agreed. Call a fluid support line for any major company and they'll tell you 75W90 is acceptable for use.

Use either Mobil 1 LS 75W-90 or Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 in both the front and rear differentials. Should be good for 100K unless the fluid gets contaminated.
