I've had cruze loaners from the dealer with both the 1.8 and the 1.4T. There is not much power to them for me and they kind of buzz on the highway. The malibu is a much more smoother and quiet car. Dealer tried to put me in one when i was car shopping but it dont have enough power and to noisy to me.----- also the cruze has a cartridge filer which is a few dollars more pricey then reg filters.

Look into an 8th gen Civic. I leased one and it got 30+MPG even when I drove it like I stole it. 4cyl with auto trans and I never wanted for more power. Much roomier than the exterior would lead you to believe. Great car.
