2013 GMC Terrain VVT Solenoids

Check for carbon before you leap. Those are too big to be pieces from rings or timing chains getting past the oil filter. I'd draw a picture of the oil circuit, but I'm sure someone would just find some other argument.
Those are most assuredly from the timing chain area. Either the guides or the cast in stands that the guides mount to. Been there done that with a customer 2.4. Even have a thread with pics on it.
 
Likely tensioners, chains, and sprockets will need to be replaced-this engine is the evil descendant of the 2.2 in my Vue, they're KNOWN for timing chain issues. If you're lucky, that debris hasn't damaged anything else... YET...
It's a surprisingly tolerant engine. I had fixed one that was so bad that it ate the cast in stands that the guides mount to. There was so much metal everywhere (including plugging up the vct valves that I had to pressure wash the top of the head and pull the oil pan to remove the debris - that was 2 years and several thousand miles ago
