Just helping my buddy out on his truck. As title says, it has the diesel which is coupled to the 6R140. He has 130,000km or so. Bought used at 30,000km. On a side note, it's a shining example that a truck that is never garaged can survive on Rotella T 15w40, Wix oil/fuel filters and no fuel additives up here.

Anyway, it's time for the powertrain to get some love. I see it requires Mercon LV for the trans and some sort of specialty fluid for the transfer case. I must admit I am not a Ford guy and never really researched them.

I see Maxlife is suitable for use in the trans and would assume it or even higher viscosity ATF will work in the TC. In these parts Maxlife runs about 7$ a liter tax in, which is subjectively a great deal.

As for filter, any preferences? Rockauto has what I assume is the correct factory filter for about 60$ shipped, which apparently is way cheaper than the dealer. Any issues with any Wix or ATP offerings?

Diffs will get some 75w90 for the front and some 80w140 for the rear. Not sure what sort of limited slip or locker they have but the 140 has modifier already in it.

Thanks

I would use the Mercon LV and not a multi-use fluid like MaxLife. Keep in mind the transmission is thermostatically controlled and therefore not all of the fluid is going to be removed by dumping the pan.The MC filter that RA sells is the correct one and I would use that not another brand (I bought one from RA for my next door neighbor and it was a OEM MC). For the axles, the front uses conventional (80W-90), but I would use 75W-90 or 75W-110 (75W-110 is the upper viscosity range of 75W-90 before the J306 tables were updated some years ago) and be done with it for 200K or so. The rear is factory filled with 75W-140 and is typically an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) and thus no friction modifier is needed.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Ya the MC filter was very reasonably priced, which was a nice find.

We have to price check the MC fluid at the dealer yet. Once in a while they actually have things realistically priced.

Maxlife will protect the just as well or better than the MERCON LV.
