Hyundai over Daewoo any day!
Oh, and the Cruz 1.4 turbo has its turbo built into the exhaust manifold. Awful design choice.

I believe that you're thinking of the Chevy Sonic(not the Cruze). And although Hyundai bought KIA some years ago(to help with the Korean economy), Hyundai lays down the foundation but, KIA still builds the rest of vehicle.

Technically neither Chevy is a Daewoo. GM Korea helped in the design of both cars, as did Opel. Both the Cruze and Sonic are assembled in S. Korea and in the US. Global cars they are indeed, but neither one is pure Korean.

Thanks for clearing this up!

Anyone who believes that building the turbo right into the engine head or exhaust manifold is somehow wrong or bad simply is not aware of what the engineers are trying to do. Seen any new or innovative engines lately?

Actually Hyundai and Kia could be said to be using outdated technology if that is your sole criteria for evaluation.

The Daewoo thing is so wrong it almost didn't deserve comment at all. Cruze is a clean sheet design, a fine vehicle.

That they are. Everything is laid out well in the engine bay, and even more complex repairs such as suspension are relatively simple.
