It is a fact that a lot of these engines have early timing chain failures. It is also a fact that Dexos was created in part to deal with the early failures. Seems the original design used a wider chain, that got changed to a thinner one for some reason. Rather than change it back they came up with Dexos. If it works for that I do not know. Replacing the chain and tensioners is expensive.
Therefore, if I had one of these engines I would use Dexos oil. It is a free world use what you want. This engine has been completely redesigned for 2017 hope they did not repeat the mistakes. Until then I avoid that engine.
