I maintenance my in laws 2012 elantra. It has 5k on it. Does anyone see any issue if I use Mobil 1 EP and a Mobil 1 Filter and go to 10k on an oci?

Your a brave soul indeed.

Follow the recommended interval in the manual. You might void the warranty if you don't follow it. Then you would be in a pickle with the inlaws.

I would use the EP and run it 15k.... Not because it's a good idea, but simply to stretch out the intervals when I have to see my in-laws. I suspect that yours are nicer than mine so you should probably just follow the manual

I have no doubt that the M1 EP will work great for 10k OCI. I doubt Hyundai feels the same way. Follow the maintenance guide until the powertrain warranty runs out.

In my opinion, Hyundai is too conservative with their OCIs. My old 2010 Tucson required 3750 miles / 6000 km OCI, which is nuts for today's modern oils.

good advice sticking with Hyundai recommendations. I will do 7500. I forget since my cars are all out of warranty.

Now thats funny

7500 is the absolute maximum. Hyundai will warranty their oil filters for 6 months/7500 miles.
If you go 10k on oil changes and there is an engine problem related to sludge buildup or being run low on oil, the motor replacement or repair is technically not warrantable. Hyundai decides these situations on a case by case basis. The dealership never has the authority to replace motors without Hyundai approving replacement first. Detailed service record are required also.
Hyundai will also not warranty anything in a situation where aftermarket parts are used to replace OEM equipment. Hyundai sent a letter to their dealers specifically stating that there are no aftermarket components that are considered suitable for use in their vehicles.

I think you'd be okay with M1 at 7500 but not one bit more if you want to protect the warranty, and if going that far on OCI's I'd want to be using OEM filters too.

I've heard they can be sticklers about maintenance when it comes to warranty claims and I don't blame them a bit, if they are paying the bills they've got some right to call the shots within reason.

I'll be doing 4-5k OCI's with dino on our new KIA just to protect the warranty even though we are not really severe service.

Agreed. The OEM filter is well built and inexpensive anyway. I buy mine in cases of 5 or 6 off of eBay and it works out to about $5 each.
