Just had the annual state inspection on the Cube and figured I would do a little write up. Overall, my wife and I love the car. She is the primary driver, but when we go somewhere together I always drive and we usually take the Cube. In this first year we put on 17,000 miles despite her daily commute being 2.5 miles each way. Would definitely purchase another one.
Pros: Seating comfort and height and ease of ingress and egress (getting more important at our age). Price ($15000.00 before tax and tags). Gas mileage: Averaging 31mpg with a high of 36 and a low of 29. Versatility of the interior- great room for stuff or people. Easy to park on streets because it is short and visibility is awesome (huge windows). Love the CVT. In around town driving it keeps the rpms low, cruises at 2000 rpms at 60mph and revs when needed. Surprising driving dynamics- doesn't sway much in corners. Love the styling- interior and exterior. Lots of standard features- blue tooth, steering wheel controls, tpms etc.
Cons: Wind noise. Always sounds windy at highway speeds (thanks to shape). The rear view mirror is super far away when you want to adjust it. When it is cold, the engine is loud and transmission whines more. Transmission makes an interesting noise while coasting to a stop. Armrest is not adjustable. Cargo area a little too small with back seats up, but that helps with a lot of other things. Cup holders suck. Stupid bungee cord on the doors. Visors are about worthless- need to have extensions to the side and drop down too. Inside window reflection.
Final note, a deer ran into the a pillar while I was doing about 70mph. Left some dents and scrapes, but I was surprised how well the little car stayed put and handled the collision.
