Thanks for the note. Silicon continues to read lower than average, so the air filter is working just
fine. The oil filter is working well too, as shown by the low insolubles reading. As for metals, those look good
as well. Aluminum, iron, and copper are holding pretty steady here -- this Hyundai looks to be developing
some very nice wear trends with this third sample. Low, steady trends are a good sign that this engine is
healthy and problem-free. The oil contained no fuel or coolant, and the TBN was good at 3.7. Try 5,500
miles on the next oil. Nice report!

Why was the OCI so short? Warranty?

What's that Firestone Tire store and Oil change store filter? I would stick with he Hyundai filter given past issues with after market on this car. I this a Spin -on or canister and cartridge?

Yeah, Hyundai specs their severe OCI at 3750. I am still in warranty so I don't want to have any questions asked about oil in case I ever have an issue.

I asked them if I could use that filter, but they are required to use the FS filter. I believe some of their filters are e-core design, but I'm not sure. I don't get the knocking upon startup and idle that is notorious for using a non oem filter. Im actually quite pleased with the performance of their filters.

My wife and I own/have owned a total of 5 KIA/Hyundai vehicles and agree 100% about using the factory OEM oil filters.

Well hello there. I went to Firestone once for an oil change. The oil was solid black after 5k miles on my 05 Matrix(kendall and white generic oil filter). Years ago the toyo dealer would use any bulk oil they could get their hands on but you received a toyo oil filter. Now I go to the Ford dealer and get a quality oil filter with MC syn-blend for the same price FS charges = win, win. Now after 5k miles the oil is a light to medium honey color.

Yeah the oil seems to come out dark, but still translucent. I can't speak for your case, but for mine, the samples seem to be coming back fine..

All I can mention from experience is that the KIA/Hyundai oil filters are high quality and others have had issues with non OEM filters.

There is quite a bit of related information on the Internet about not using other than OEM filters for best results.

Wife and I use OEM filters and synthetic 5w20 oil year around and being just a few miles from the Florida state line we see long hot summers and never have any problems. We use Quaker State Ultimate Durability oil.

Another vote for using OE Hyundai filters

Even more important in the UK in my experience as the pattern ones were very cheap looking and only a pound or two cheaper than OE.

You do have many more filter options than the UK though

I wonder if that is due to more and more people avoiding cheap looking pattern filters in favour of known names and OE.

I would disagree about oem filters, we owned a sedona and a optima and used a variety of oil filters on both, whatever was on sale, and never experienced any issues, over 375k miles combined
