2011 Subaru WRX oil change

Amsoil's web site says Recommended for the extended drain intervals established by the manufacturer. In the OP's case that would be 7,500 miles and in wool's case (and mine) it would be 3,750. Actually, Amsoil's product application guide still says 3,750 for all Subaru turbos due to turbo oil screen clogging even though it only affected certain model years.

Fingers crossed for TBN retention!

Just run it for the full interval. I doubt you'll experience any excessive wear. I used to worry so much about oil, but seeing all of the sludge pics, hearing about the lack of maintenance on here and in real life leads me to believe that using good oil at normal intervals, and keeping 'er topped off is all I need to make my engine outlast the rest of the car.

Thanks for all the information, everyone! I've received a lot of other recommendations for Rotella T6 5w-40. I've never had an oil analysis, but want to get one in the M1 I'm running now. I'll probably switch to Rotella next, and compare analyses. What should I be looking at in the oil analysis?

If you are concerned about TBN retention, why not consider a run with AMSOIL's AME 15w40?

Works great for HD turbocharged diesels, ought to work in a Subaru, too!

Cheers!

For starters, have a look at this:

Depending on your mileage, your wear-in metals may be slightly elevated due to break-in but just make sure they're not in the triple digits. The M1 will likely shear to a 20 grade and it's possible that RT6 will shear to a 30 grade.

One of the most important things to look out for for a modified WRX is fuel dilution. A little fuel will be normal since you could be running rich from the AccessPort, but you don't want it to be too high.

And even if you run it to 4k miles or less, you should get a TBN.

I'm sure it's running rich with the Cobb map, but I'm getting a protune in a couple weeks. I'm at 4500 miles on the engine right now. Should I wait a while to get a used oil analysis? I'd like to compare M1 to Rotella to Motul 8100.

I would probably do a used oil analysis before and after the protune. Although I guess it won't be a direct comparison running different oil. I also wouldn't push Mobil 1 5w30 much farther than the current 4,500.

Which Motul 8100? I ran Eco-nergy 5w30 one winter and it held up nicely. It even stayed in grade despite it starting as a thin 30 grade (although it could have sheared and thickened back up due to oxidation). It's API SL rated (with no ILSAC rating) so it has more zinc and phosporus than SN/GF5 oils.

I also ran Motul X-lite 0w30 recently. All of my used oil analysis are in the used oil analysis forum if you can find them. I recently went AP Stage 1 at 110k miles (I mod slowly) so my next used oil analysis should be interesting. This thing is FUN and the 04/05 FXT probably gains more hp and torque from stage 1 than any other Subaru. 29% hp and 21% tq.

I'm gonna give Motul 8100 X-cess 5w-40 a try. Stage 1 at 110k? That's still cool. I love FXTs, especially with a few mods. This is my second WRX, and I'm already stage 2+ at less than 5k miles. I need to slow down a bit...Rome was't built in a day. I don't know if I'll get a used oil analysis before the protune (it's in a week). Although, I still have my used oil from my last change in my garage. What labs do you guys recommend for used oil analysis?
