My Aunt's Car just hit 250,000 mi

First 100,000 mi (Dealer Service)
5000 mi OCI
QS SynBlend 5W-30 Bulk & Hyundai Filter

Last 150,000 mi (Her usual mechanic)
7500 mi OCI
M1 5W30 & Hyundai Filter

Trans Fluid changed at 100,000 and 200,000 mi.

I thought Hyundai all died by 125,000 mi?

I don't know if the motor is the same as my '07 2.4L GLS. At 220k mine started having issues with a vibration around 3000 rpm. Mine had a balance shaft module in it that is driven by a separate chain behind the regular timing chain. Has it's own guides and tensioner also. The BSM also has the oil pump in it. Consider replacement if you want even longer life.

Soon after vibration started something let go and I had oil spraying all over the motor. Labor and parts were an unknown as if the BSM was bad it was an additional $700-$800 for the part. You could try it but had to be fully reassembled to check. If bad, do all the labor over again. I didn't have the time, energy, place to do it myself and with a book value of $700 for a 13 year old, 220k, starting to rust underneath vehicle, I couldn't justify sinking in the $$ when I needed reliable transportation soon.

Most Hyundai and Kia's die early due to their owners. Buy them cheap and don't ever maintain them. Amazing what somewhat routine oil and filter changes do.

Even modern Toyota's no longer have the "abuse" factor factored in anymore.

I dunno, I just worked on a '12 Kia Optima with the 2.0T that had 240k miles.

It seemed "fine" and I was surprised when I saw the odometer. Owned by a younger woman who doesn't take great care of it, but I have no idea of overall history ‐‐ maybe not on the original motor?

Hyundai made a lot of bad engines. Mostly from 2011 to 2016. Those made in the Georgia USA plant had the debris from crankshaft machining left in the oil passages leading to bearing failure. The piston design of the 1.8 and 2.0Nu engines result in piston slap and worn rings leading to high oil consumption.
Perhaps only %10 of these engines fail but if you are one of them, you have a %100 failure.
I know, I have one.
