Been researching the internet on the new Optima for a few weeks. Went to dealer and looked at one today.

Very impressive car.

IF we got one, we would either get the LX or EX, most likely the LX. No hybrid, no turbo.

I was just curious what current BITOG owners have to say. I have searched, but most of it was discussing the turbo version.

I do have slight concerns over the DI engine. Is this something that I should be worried about. Most likely, we would own this car for a minimum of 150k miles.

Does this car REALLY get 35mpg on the highway?

Thanks

Someone posted that they got 37MPG on the highway with a rental Sonata, which is the Optima's corporate cousin. Basically the same engine and transmission. Looked like in their pic that they had the cruise set on 80.

I'd guess lower 20s around town. My car has the non-DI version of the same engine and I get around 23, mostly in-town and short trips.

My wife and I have a Hyundai and a KIA. Have talked with the maintenance shops regarding the DI engines and no issues to date. Both shops recommended that you do the recommended maintenance as outlined in the owners manual.

Talk with the folks in the local service shop and get their opinion.

As I recall One of the Hyundai/KIA DI engines made Wards top 10 engines for 2012.
