Hey All,

Looking at buying a certified per-owned 2011 Honda Odyssey EX-L RES. Does anyone have one of these? What has been your experience/advice? I love the van, but I'm a little shaky on it being a first model year. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I used to be a firm honda supporter. The 1999 Odyssey had many transmission issues which were corrected by 2003. I own a 98 Sienna that I bought in 2006. There is a great debate between both vans. I can tell you that I know that some people get horrible fuel mileage with the Odyssey's.

I don't want to provide a biased opinion, so please check it all out for yourself.

Good luck.

Regards, JC.

I see a lot of pre-2011 ones but very few 2011+. My friends who buy a brand new one every several years and swear by them, bought an used 2010 to avoid the new one. The new styling is ugly.

The J series engine dates from the 90's, and while the VCM system is only five or so years old I think it's safe to say that won't ba an issue. I think the EX-L comes with the new 6 speed? That's an unknown. I'd be fully confident in a new model year Odyssey, but I own a new model year Sienna which I preferred for a long list of reasons (more power, no timing belt, 6 speed on lower models... etc).

Consumer Reports who loves Honda and many folks on this board believe biased in reliability ratings to Japan gives it a below average reliability rating.

I would inquire with Honda boards to see what is up. It may minor stuff that is getting worked out.

We have rented both a Towm & Country and a Sienna and my wife amd we both hated the Sienna. Too much road noise, too much Playschool plastic, etc. We both loved the Odyssey for its combination of comfort and luxury. MPHs should be OK with the VCM system. Sold on the vehicle, just want to know about its reliability.

Thanks!

too early to judge, i went with the 2011 sienna for several reasons, i still do not trust honda's transmission track record.

Will it be that big a savings over buying a new one? Honda is completely insane with their used pricing. I always recommend sticking with an LX, or maybe EX model for it's simplicity, but I get that people want all the goodies. 2007-2010 are a good batch of years.

We've had great luck with our 2008 Odyssey LX that we've had since Feb 2008. We're only at ~56K miles though.
