2011 Dodge journey

MT did some "First Drives" on many of the new Chrysler lineup. Most were favorable. New interiors and drivetrains finally look very promising. The Pentastar in an Avenger would be fun. Now they have some work to do in their small cars.

" Long story short -- we never thought we would ever be typing this -- the Journey's insides are the class of the segment."

Curb weight 3800-4200 lb (mfr)

Edmunds must be smoking. There's no way it's 5000#. Maybe GVW?

Well if all he needs is a Civic, then a Journey was a bit of dumb buy...

I'm watching these with abit of interest as a future family hauler, they are on sale here for $20K all in, so there will be alot of them around for a while.

5005lb is GVW.

As far as GEMA engines, all I can think off, they are the same engines, but with enough internal differences, such as different crankshaft weights and different ECM programming to make them behave differently. Now with Kia and Hyundai adding Direct Injection that difference will be even greater.

Dumb? I don't think so....the four-door Civic has a lot of interior and trunk space. The Journey is not exactly a large SUV type vehicle. Dumb? I would say just a poor choice.

This Journey doesn't look like the vehicle to pull Chrysler out of it's current malaise.

As UM said, curb weight (~3800) is generally used when quoting vehicle weight. MPG's just not that great.

New Cherokee seems to be an improvement, but IMO, they need a mid size passenger vehicle to capture some market share. Right now they are way behind the curve in that area.

I'd look at the Edge before the Journey. That said, in critical review, even the Edge's curb weight/mpg is cited as a drawback. Prefer the styling and Sync option of the Edge though.

Chrysler should bring the 2.0 Diesel Eruo Journey over here. Gets a combine 33.6 MPG. Motor is too dirty for USA EPA though.

I rented plenty of Journeys before. Usually base models and had that classic rental fleet boring quality. The new one looks nice but yeah a fuel burning pig. But not as much as a Chevy Traverse which is lucky to pull 20 MPG on the freeway.

I'll look at the new Journey seriously when I decide to trade back up. Edge would also be in the running. The new Grand Cherokees also look very nice, but I'd like something with a little better MPG. The Edge 2.0 Ecoboost sounds real promising if they option it across all models.

Never bought a car based on what kind of mileage it gets. I look for styling and performance. Gas mileage should not be the only criteria for buying a vehicle. If it was, we'd all be driving one of those crummy looking Smart cars or an equally bad looking foreign junker.

That is honestly just plain strange. I literally sold my Maxima because it does not get anywhere near as good overall economy compared to my Saturns. I liked the car, it was good, but the Saturns are cheaper to drive. How can fuel economy not be a top concern?
