It belongs to a friend of one of my old friends. She bought a new car (Corvette) and the Corolla is just sitting in her garage. She's asking $12k for it.

Go to www.autotrader.com and enter in a south Texas zipcode like 73301 (Austin) and enter in a fairly decent millage that you would be willing to drive like 300 miles, enter in Toyota, Corolla, 2011, and 60K miles maximum, and look at the millage and cost of vehicles that come up.

There is a 2011 Corolla with 51,065 miles for 7,250 dollars.

I have had a 2010 for the past 5 years, it has 160K now with zero problems. Nothing but maintenance and a few little safety recalls. It holds alignments well and wears tires very evenly. 132HP engine is peppy and the 4 speed automatic has the best programming of any automatic I've ever driven. (Ford and Hyundai would be the worst). Headlight bulbs are easy to change, and light distribution is perfect. The trunk is amazingly huge.

Downsides, steering center is a little vague, body roll is noticeable in corners, interior fabrics look cheap.

Had an '04S with zero issues and sold to neighbor about 5 years ago with 120K on it. The lady drives it to work every day. I thought it was decently comfortable to drive with all the power an avg person would need.

SIL has one. Suprisingly large space, but otherwise is a numb couch on wheels. A mini camry of the time period.

And what's the price???? Likely high relative to a new one.

Edit: you said $12k when invoice for a 2017 is $17930+destination for the S model...

~$6k savings for a 6 year old car with 50k miles (doesnt matter how long they last, you WILL have a lot of maintenance to do in the next 50-60k miles)

I see that as a 33% ish discount for a car that should be at least 50% off new invoice.

Yawn mobile. My brother in law a professor has one as his commuter(80 miles/day) with manua. It never breaks down and has over 200k. His only like of vehicle is it never breaks down and gets 35MPG+.

$12k is crazy money for a gloried economy car.

Kelley Blue Book suggested retail is $12,568.

So what does everyone think? Make a lowball offer with cash in hand maybe?

Take a look at cargurus to see if it is a good deal or not.

I think thats too much money.

A friend of mine just bought a brand new VW Jetta for 14k, brand new with factory warranty.

You should look at the Private Party value. The retail is what dealers ask, and she's not a dealer. Probably pay about $10k and even that would be kind of high.

Three year old lease returns that are Toyota certified can be had for around the $10k mark, with 30k miles.

A guy on here bought a 2016 Corolla LE in Florida for $13k plus tax, so $13,800. That car was NEW! I do remember the user's name but prob shouldn't mention it on this thread.

That's way too much money for that old of a car and low end of a car.

My Sonata is huge inside and extremely comfortable. $10k plus tax.

Also the S means it got weighed down with plastic cladding and that's it. No differences in mechanics at all.
I think you'd like a Mazda3 of any trim with a manual better, and the smaller motor version should match the corolla for mileage and be cheaper. The bigger motor Mazda3's get a bit thirsty and people want alot for them.
