2011 3rd-gen Saab 9-5.... did it make it?

I saw the following advert for the 2011 3rd-gen (years of 2nd and 1st?) and it references Saab's failed sale to Spyker. With Saab not (or is it now? Started as a typo, now i have question on that too) officially dead-in-the-water as happened with Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer (deal failed) and another division that seems to be slipping my mind (Isuzu? Does that count? Maybe Suzuki next? All The General umbrella. Isuzu had 5th Envoy/Trailblazer clone) the price quoted for this car HAS to be DRASTICALLY lower! Wondering how the used market will look in two-three years, with no SAAB dealers around (or converted dealers to GM) and resale. The video quoted $52,000 so the plummeting resale should make it "reasonable." Yes?

Would love ot check out a 9-7X (I know thats an SUV) or this car or a 9-3 convertible last-of-line. Anything i should be aware of? And did this car ever even make it here for sale? Thank you

Well,the other side of the coin is that the remaining SAABs will become "wanted" cars,basically due to the fact you wont be able to buy a new one.So,resale should over time actually increase as a "collectible"...even junkers will go up in value as much-needed parts sources.Yes,though the immediate new ones (2010,2011) will undergo a massive devaluation before they start the climb again. Dont underestimate the small but rabid following those things have,there may not be many who actually buy them,but those who do are very enthusiastic about it.Much like Volvo buyers,they keep buying even though the Chinese own them now....

My issue with Saab and I have already ran into a issue trying to find parts. Is not that the manufacturer said they are going to stop making car/parts and have some support for XX number of years. Like other brands have done. The company is bankrupt and the remaining assets to be sold off. Parts that are sitting in Saab distribution warehouses are property that is to be sold off and cannot be ordered by dealers. I've heard that GM is going to handle the warranty for cars sold prior to a certain date. With no ongoing support I wouldn't consider buying one.

I thought there were laws that required X years of parts support?

My wife had a daihitsu rocky and sold it because she was told that there were not going to be parts for it anymore. We still see it.

The 9-3 at least had some level of parts similarity with the midsize GM sedans. Not sure if the latest got the DI ecotec from the regal, but at least prior, like mine, the car has a custom head and turbo/control setup, but some stuff like blocks were standard ecotec. I doubt that other stuff like AC compressors will be different, control units have a pretty strong aftermarket for rebuilds/resolders.

Its not scaring me enough to sell my 2004 9-3.

That's the issue. If the manufacturer stop production yes. But this company went belly up! One day open, Next day Closed! That the issue trying to secure replacement OEM parts. The unused parts will most likely make it back into parts system. GM doesn't seem to want the Technology aspects in the wrong hands. That stuff is going to disappear.

Yes that 9-5 made it here. I've seen one in my area. Only one. Wasn't a bad looking or performing car, but it was overpriced.

From what I've read, there is currently no warranty support for new Saabs. So while you may get a 9-5 for a steal right now, it sounds like you are on the hook for any problems. I suppose you could probably buy an extended warranty, but some of the Saab-specific parts will probably be difficult to find.

This new 9-5 does share some mechanical similarities to the Buick LaCrosse though, so for major engine components, you might be OK finding parts.

I've always liked Saabs though and am sad to see them go. I still would like to get a 2000-ish 9-3 hatch someday. Preferably a Viggen of course.

I've seen a few of the new 9-5s around. It's definitely a good looking car, although it seems pretty uncommon.

Ask all the Daewoo owners about their bankrupt car company, you would have to be an idiot to buy a new Saab.

All I knew is if I were stuck with a newer Saab now I would be trading it in ASAP before the resale value is like $2k, or its broke and you can't get the part to fix it.

Better take the hit now while it still has a little value.

True.

I could find anything I wanted for my Spitfire from Victoria British, SpitBits, etc... even though the car had been out of production for over 15 years at the time and Triumph itself had met it's demise.

No comment on the prices I paid but credit where credit is due to those companies that sell the parts. They were still finding NOS parts much later like trunk lids and door skins. They were working hard for the inflated prices they charged.

Oh yeah, the new Chevys and Saturn Aura, etc!

What happened with them again? (Daewoo.)

Suzuki V-something and Saturn Aura? Heard it was Daewoo-sourced.. good cars too IIRC..

But what happened to the ownership experience of the final Isuzus and Daewoos ~2004-5? DIDNT THE WARRANTY GET ROLLED OVER TO GM A LA RECIPROCITY?

Also people always used to tell me that "If you lease a car and the company goes belly-up you arent responsible for the remainder of the payments." True?
