My daughter's 1998 Grand Am SE 4 cylinder with 180,000 miles did it's job for the 7 years she had it since 11th. grade through 6 years of college. She was interested in a used 2010 Corolla S and I test rode it with her driving for about 10 minutes. She ended up buying the car with 33,268 miles on it for $12,800 with help of family discount at dealership and 1.5% interest through Toyota financing. I realize some people have summed the Corolla up as "reliable to the point of boredom", but does anyone have this year car and how has it treated them thus far? I did 98% of the work on her old car at home, but I was hoping the dealership could handle any issues considering she still has a couple years under warranty. Seemed pretty nice/ quiet on the test ride but nothing to write home about either. Typical I guess. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Totally agree. She will have other problems to deal with. The corolla won't be one of them.

What oil does it take? I'm guessing toyo 0w20 with 10k oci's but could be wrong on that.
0W20 is the primary recommended oil for most Toyota products after 2007 - I have the factory notice for our 2007 Corolla.
Boring waiting for repairs?? Our 2007 Toyota Corolla has now completed its first 100,000 miles and set a personal record for us:
Original brakes, still about half left. (It is a 5spd manual, that likely helped a lot)
Orginal shocks, still nice and tight.
Total repairs: likely 3 or 4 sets of WW blades. One air filter. Nothing else. Nothing!!
Yup, Toyota boring. Gotta take up another hobby, car repairs are few and far between now.
Thankfully, I get to change the oil and filter (Mobil 1 0W20) every 10 k miles. Dang thing does not go down at all, do not even get to add any oil along the way.
Added this Edit: Even the battery is original. Started it yesterday morning at -2F degrees....whirled like summertime. Of course the 0W20 likely greatly reduces the demand on the battery, but still.... maybe I SHOULD change the battery just so I could retain my mechanic skills!! (And we will be taking it to the mountains for skiing again this year)

Given that he lives up north, getting 5 years from a battery is common.
Here in Florida, it isn't, and I would replace the 3 year old battery in a hurry.
Toyota factory original batteries have very little writing on them. If it says "Toyota Care" on the battery, it is not the original battery. Often, car companies will get their replacement batteries from some other battery company than OE. You probably will not see a new Panasonic battery in the parts department, even though numerous Toyotas had one from the factory.
