Tried the Valvoline SynBlend Premium "Blue" HDEO. It was golden brown so maybe they used to dye it blue! As expected, for a synblend HDEO it's results landed where the Delvac 1300 15w-40 Synblend and Delo 15w-40 Conventional did. No surprises. Presently have STP/Amalie 5w-40 HDEO in the crank case and will run it 15K-20K depending on the time. I don't commute as much and so my miles traveled a month dropped from 2500 to around 1500 so it is taking me sometime longer to rack up the 15K to 20K miles needed. I wish I had a borescope but from what i can see through the oil filler hole, the top end is spotless with zero varnish. The dipstick is varnish free as well.

Good looking report, love 15w-40. Scored 12 quarts of full syn delo xsp for $33 on a label error a few days ago. That's $2.8 a quart and the cheapest full syn oil i've ever bought, I've bought conventional on sale for $1.99 before. The 10 quart jugs of mag 1 hdeo lowes sells are a very close second since those 10q jugs are 28-30 each regular price with free shipping.

Just posted this elsewhere, but this seems like a perfect spot for reference.

Good results but remember the extra zinc and phosphorus in diesel oil wreak havoc on ice engine emissions systems, especially the Cat.
What extra zinc and phosphorus? It meets or exceeds SP API specs. So API SP, SN or SM Plus rated HDEO's are emission killers uh? Seems they wouldn't earn the latest gas engine spec if they did.

Great report sir. Thank You for sharing

I have a 2012 XD and the car is great.

It has 98,000 on it so I decided to change the PCV which is buried under the intake manifold. That was fun.

While I was in there I snapped a pic of how clean the valves are.

The lighting in there was bad for my camera, but there was nearly no carbon on the these.

Oil has been mostly Valvoline High Mileage EP 0w20.

No oil use.

If an engine is an oil burner, then the catalytic converters will get destroyed regardless of what oil is in the crankcase.
But if the engine does not burn a measurable amount of oil, then it also doesn't matter what is in the crankcase, because how else would the additives make their way into the catalytic converter?
So it's not a matter of "extra zinc and phosphorus in diesel oil", but a matter of oil consumption.

Exactly correct.

Here's the PDS for Valvoline's SP-rated Premium Blue One Solution Gen 2: Note the Phosphorus is at the 800ppm limit for SP, right where most gasoline oils are.

But even with an API SN or SN plus oil isn't crazy high. Here's the Valvoline Heavy Duty Synthetic Blend 15w40 in API SN:

These are not the old CH-4 or CI-4 only oils that met API SH and had a whopping 1.6% SAPS.

CHeck out this VOA from 2004, note the main difference is a huge cut in Calcium levels. Phosphorus and zinc are higher, but not hugely so.

Mine uses very little, especially over 15K-20K runs. So glad its a port injected engine.

I just sold a 240K mile Mazda CX-5 that was fed nothing but 15w-40 HDEO after I discovered it burned too much 5w-20(not a lot compared to what the car makers say today is "normal"!). When it was sold the cats were fine. Ironically, the only car I've ever had to replace cats on was a Lexus that had been fed conventional oils.
