2010 Prius service minder problems

My friend has a 2010 Prius that keeps calling for the oil to be changed every (approx) 3k miles. He was wondering if the dealer could have manually set the service program? I wouldn't think so? Also complained that his computer indicated mileage went down several notches as well. I tried to get him to calculate by hand, but so far he hasn't. One last thing is that he said the display goes black sometimes.

Is there a known problem/solution for what I've described?

The computer is pre-programmed for 5k. The oil change interval per TMS-USA is now 10k miles with 0w-20 synthetic only; however the reminder message comes on every 5k as TMS-USA still requires a service stop every 5k for a tire rotation and inspection.

I do not believe that you can change the interval mileage to 3k with Techstream, however I can plug in my Techstream tonight to my Prius and check. I am fairly certain that it is fixed at 5k but I will double check tonight when I access that menu from Techstream.

I have not heard of any widespread issues with the display going blank, but if he is a big guy, his knee may rub up against the knob which controls the display brightness as he enters/exits the car, which can cause the screen to go blank. I have certainly done it before...

Critic, I was hoping you'd show up. Thanks for your help! Anything you can come up with would be much appreciated.

He said that he had the oil changed before a 2000 mile trip and by the time he returned, the service minder was calling for an oil change. Surely the dealer reset the minder?

I tried resetting mine tonight - it definitely does not give you the option for anything less than 5k. It's an all or none. I am guessing that whoever did an oil service forgot to reset the maint indicator.

I tried looking through customized settings in Techstream but my laptop battery died. I will try again tomorrow.
