2010 Honda Accord 4 cyl engine

car has never had a transmission change service done and with 187k. Wondering if at this point I could be doing more harm if I change it?
the car shifts just fine no issues. Just afraid if I change it what would come out and adding new oil what will loosen up in there that might give me trouble afterwards. Maybe just drive it till it dies? that's the question.

don’t even sweat it. order 4 quarts of DW on amazon and a new external filter. Changed my Wife’s for the first time in the 180-190k range aswell. massive difference in shift quality.

There is always a risk but usually if the fluid is not burnt, transmission shifts good most of the time a drain/fill is safe.

I've always been of the camp to change it. If the oil was "used up" then why continue to use bad oil? won't that make the transmission die faster? People fear that good fluid will free up gunk, but how do you know the trans wasn't going to fail in short order anyhow? if it really had that much garbage tucked away, just waiting to float free... it might have done that, anyhow.

Pan drop, filter swap, refill won't hurt anything. The shift quality will likely improve. Just don't do a flush.
