Both cars are new for 2010. I checked out both as I am in the market for a mini SUV. The GMC I better looking IMO, drives nicer, is a little larger and has a couple cooler features than a similar equipped Tucson. My issue is that the GMC is about $3300 more, and the Tucson is offering competitive financing.

Any owners out there of 2010 models that want to chime in?

Wife has an Equinox with the 3 litre v6. So far, I'm impressed, and I've never been a GM fan (though this has been changing as of late - Regal, LaCrosse, CTS, Equinox etc.)

Isnt GM giving 0% financing? - just push the dealer hard on price - tell him you are going to but the Tuscon - theyll move. Also look for a Saturn Vue - bet you can get that cheap and serviced by a gm dealer. Kia service around here is terrible - and the warranty is such that you have to spend hundreds more on service, and very frequently vs. something like a toyota or Gm or Ford. Read the warranty servoice requirements - you'll be at the service desk a lot.

I would get the equinox instead, nicer looks (IMO) and is cheaper than the Terrain. The GM cars are made in USA. The Tuscon is assembled in South Korea.

He's basing it on old-school line of thought that says GM is unreliable and will break every other day. Couldn't be more true these days. GM will give you reliability on par with Ford, or Honda/Toyota.

Isn't the Equinox still made in Canada? The 2006 Equinox I had for a short time had a 3.4 liter engine that was made in China, Transmission was made in Japan.

Oh! You're absolutely right! I thought it was made in Indiana for some reason. Yes, it is made in canada. I'd take something manufactured in Canada, or even Mexico, before something made in Korea, or Japan. The 2.4L Ecotec is made in Spring Hill Tennessee.

Lovely spouse and I just bought a 2010 Equinox. Really quiet, rides smooth. Lots of features for the price. Great drivers seat, even has lumbar support. Back seat moves fore and aft 8" to make the area behind the seat bigger for luggage, (my daughters wheelchair fits). First tank of fuel got 29 MPG on mostly highway in eco mode. It is assembled in Canada, and the Ecotec 4 cylinder is made in Tennessee. The 6 speed transmission is good, but you can feel it shift (gets to 6 pretty quick in eco mode). It's not an obnoxious shift, just noticable. Ours has a sunroof. My only complaint so far is the rear windows need to be cracked when the roof is open. The wind deflector doesn't do its job, and you get the whoomp-whoomp pulse if the rears aren't cracked. There is some internet buzz about the DI engine, and valve contamination. Time will tell on that. It wasn't enough to stop us from buying it, based the on the reviews of the Ecotec engine in general. So far, a well appointed, great, quiet vehicle that is very comfy, and looks good in motion. If I were to do it again, I'd probably get the high-end infotainment system with the headrest monitors, Pioneer head, and sub-woofer. That, and leather heated seats was another 3k, though... just not worth it for our needs right now. GM supplier pricing got us down to under 23k.

I suspect that both are commendably capable vehicles. Were I put to the choice today, I think I'd take the GM offering. I would, however, take the Chevrolet flavor (Equinox); I just can't get my mind around the grille styling of the GMC. There's a Terrain that parks near me at work every day, and every day I drive by, look at the grille, and feel a visceral need to barf. By contrast, using school house grades, I'd give the Chevy a B+ or A- in that department (styling).

Beanoil -- sounds like you got the I-4 version, right? I thought that only the V-6 was DI, am I wrong about that? Good price, by the way, well done.

My wife absolutely loves the 2009 Torrent GXP I bought her during the cash for clunkers / final Pontiac going out of business blow out fire sale. She almost never drives her Jag since getting the Torrent. It's not like her Jag was worn out, it only has 25K miles on it.

The final assembly on hers was done in Canada, the 6 speed tranny was made in Mexico (yecch - close to a deal stopper), and the 3.6 high feature V6 (LY7) was sourced from Japan (Suzuki, I guess).

If I could find another new GXP Torrent, I would buy one for myself. I think GM hit a home run with their new mid size CUV's.

I do believe that V6 is a honda, isn't it (same one in the Vue)? And I can't speak for others, but I'd take mexico over Korea, Japan, etc.

Nope.

Only the Vue got the Honda V6. The regular Equinox and Torrent got the OHV HVV6 3.4L and the Equinox Sport and Torrent GXP got the DOHC HFV6 3.6L.

The new Equnox and Terrain get the Ecotec 2.4L or DOHC HFV6 3.0L. Both engines are DI.

Gee, I thought the Northstar WAS two Vega engines welded together! At least I heard that somewhere on the internet, so it must be true, right?

Just Kidding, folks.

Let's give the engine a fair shake.
