Looking at a clean Town and Country with almost 53k miles. Has the 3.8 V6. Vehicle seems clean and well maintained as far as I can tell, but it's at a dealer and there isn't any service history available. Is the 3.8 a good engine? Anything I should know about these? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Taxi fleets are getting rid of all their Chrysler/Dodge vans and are going with Toyota. One fleet manager told me they could not keep up with accessory and hardware problems, doors, switches, heater/ac controls, trim etc. They also had problems with brakes, engines/engine accessories and transmissions. I understand that taxi service is not daily driver service but the Toyota mini-vans evidently have few problems and the mechanics say they are easier to work on and replacement parts are better quality. Also when they finally sell a Toyota min-van people quickly purchase them. The Chrysler/Dodge vans get junked/crushed because no one wants them. The Toyota's have been making it to 400K+ miles and a Chrysler/Dodge has never made it to 200K. This information is only of use if you keep your vehicles long enough to start wearing them out. If you change frequently then almost any vehicle should be good enough.

All vehicle companys have there good & bad with ALL brands. You see loads of Dodge/Chrysler vans on the road "everyday!!" If price is right go for it. That motor is very reliable!!

If that 2010 is a really good deal, it's worth a shot. Otherwise, I'd hold off for a Pentastar 3.6L and 62TE trans combo. Brake rotors are calipers are undersized on the 2010-2012 and need brake work often. 2012+ had some nice interior changes and suspension tweaks that are well worth it too.
I would get an 01-07 with 3.3 (preferably a short wheelbase Caravan).If you can get used to rocker/dogleg rust and the occasional trans failure,you could keep that sucker til 300K.The 3.3 is the 3.8 with a shorter stroke (the 3.3 came first) and doesn't seem to have the oil consumption issues the 3.8 and old 3.0 OHC Mitusbishis had.
the 3.3 is a great engine the 3.8 has oil consumption and rocker arm problems on some of them.. i like the chrysler vans better than the toyota. As for saying that chrysler vans never go over 200,000 miles that is just not true at all they run a long timeif taken care of
The Chrysler vans will go 200k for sure, but the money you'll be putting into them to get there is ridiculous... Been there, done that.
The cheap buy in for these vans isn't worth the hassle later down the road. Spend more money up front for a quality van.
