I let this round of Mobil 1 run for a shorter period of time because of the elevated wear numbers from the previous run on Mobil 1. I think that this UOA is pretty normal, nothing really stands out except viscosity is a little low. I have a hard time running Mobil 1 for a long period of time because of the first UOA and I honestly think I will not use Mobil 1 again. I filled the Accord with Motorcraft Syn Blend 5W 20 and plan on doing a 5000 mile run to see how well that did. If I get good results with Motorcraft I might just stick with it because if is cheap and no point to spend extra on Mobil 1 if I am going to dump it under 5000 miles.

These results are very good, but I agree with you that MC at 5k intervals will do very well and be less $$$.

That oil sheared pretty bad, no? Both runs of Mobil 1 appeared to shear out of grade. Wear numbers look fine, but it surprises me that Mobil 1 would shear this much after only 5,000 miles in a Honda 4-cylinder.

Additionally: I agree with you that for 5,000 mile OCIs (which is exactly what I do with our two Hondas), synthetic is not really beneficial in the K24 engines. I'd use conventional myself, or at least a cheap synthetic or blend. I've found that Valvoline MaxLife 5W-20 runs REAL quiet in our K24...the quietest oil I've used yet in it.

Since I have accounts through work with a couple parts stores I can get NAPA syn or Parts Master syn for under $4 a quart all the time. I was thinking of going that route and a NAPA or wix filter and running 5000 mile oil changes. I know that the NAPA and Parts Master oils are made by Valvoline and really is not bad stuff.

That is not a bad idea. The only thing is both those lubes have sodium, so if you want to rule out coolant (which I seriously doubt there is any) then you may want to use Motorcraft, Pennzoil Conventional, Quaker State Conventional. Otherwise the NAPA syn is great.

At first I was going to ask "Why in the world do you use Mobil 1 with an OCI of less than 7,500 miles?" Until I kept reading and saw you recognized the problem.

But I could still ask that question to so many others on this site that dump their synthetic so soon. What a waste.

Have you considered the Honda Full Synthetic? I run it 7-8K, the TBN is still strong. I buy it online from a Honda dealer for $42.00. This includes a Honda OEM filter, crush washer and freight. Honda R&D approves it which is good enough for me.
