Looking to do my 3rd oil change on the car. First one was the break in oil from factory and the 2nd oil change was done by a smalltime garage by the previous owner. The car is just getting ready to roll over 10000 kilometers. I live in New Brunswick Canada. The car is going to be parked for the next winter as im only going to use it as a summer car. Summer weather here is usually between 20c and 35c.
Honda recommends 5W30. I plan on getting the next oil change done at the dealership. Just want to bring my own oil. I want to switch to synthetic. All the reviews i have read on here make me lean towards Pennzoil Platnium. Right now the local canadian tire has a sale of 5 one litre jugs for $29 so it is also affordable. Any help would be great!! Thank You

to BITOG!

Pennzoil Platinum will do just fine. Just about any good synthetic 5w30 will work well. If PP is the most affordable one, go for it.

To bad your not in the States... My local WalMart has Pennzoil Platinum in 5 quart jugs...on sale for $20.50. The reason IMHO is that I think they a phaseing out PP....and Ultra will replace it.

Just read that the Canadian Dollar is now an equal exchange with the American Dollar....so if your close to the border...come over and get some PP.

my vote for PP, cheaper than M1, with the use or lack of it, I would not shy away from using a canandian tire brand syn oil :-) if it is cheaper!

I've never tried PP before but if everyone say it's as good as the Mobil 1 I use as a standard then go ofr it. Get which ever is the cheapest. For sure you can go the full recommended distance your manual tells you can as synthetic oil in any brand is expensive so get your moneys worth out of it.

If you want to do full-length OLM changes, pick any synthetic.

If you want to do changes a lil more often (timed intervals, for instance) pick a good dino brand that suits you.

If you consume oil, you can try 10w30 for summers, no problem there. If it burns oil you really want to get serious, try a Euro 30 weight, like Syntec 0w-30, Esso XD-3 0w30 or Mobil 1 0w-40.

that engine will run very well on synpower 5w30

2 of my buddys and i run this in our high compression k series(what you have) engine. they won't use anything else for the price

so should I switch it out when the car tells me too or since it is synthetic leave it in a bit longer?

Right now one of the local tuner shops has RP on for sale for $9 a litre. I know it wont always be that price thats whats making me lean towards not getting it. I wanna just run one oil and not switch it around a bunch of times.

Do your first change when the car tells you to, and send a sample in for a used oil analysis. When you get the results, see if you want to run it longer.

Good thinking. Royal Purple makes good stuff but you're better off sticking with the same oil for as long as possible. Given the car you drive, I don't think RP would offer you much (if anything) over PP anyway.

Just picked up some Pennzoil Platinum 5w30.
Thanks everyone for the quick responces :)
