hey guys, here recently my car has started making a thump from the rear end when i come to a stop sign and apply my brakes. the car only has 23k on it, so what in the [censored] could be going on with this car, i mean its only 2 yrs old, sometimes it will throw you forward in your seat, any ideas guys?

yea, everything is secure, and its going to the dealer in the morning, just wondering what it could be, kinda like to have an idea about it before i carry it in..

If the driveshaft uses a slip yoke, that could be the cause, but usually dry slip yokes make a thump when you take off from a stop, rather than when you come to a stop.

yea, the car is actually my sister in law's car, and i rode with her tonight to feel it myself, and it never happened when we took off, just a thud right before we came to a stop.

the honda is back running, the car was flooded and that is what caused the plugs not to fire, my mechanic cleaned the plugs and it fired right up, and it hasnt run hot since, so i guess it was the thermostat that was causing it to run hot.

Sounds like a transmission problem that is somewhat corrected with TSB 08-22-7 (Driveline bump while braking below 10 MPH). It updates the power control module/transmission control module.

Accordng to the TSB it can only "improve" the bump.

just talked to the dealer and they said it was the programming of the computer, sounds like some [censored] to me, what do you guys think ?

Sway bar bushing.
Or another suspension bushing/component.
Maybe a loose exhaust mount, that allows shifting.
At those low miles, this is not normal .

That fix was just alluded to in the post above yours.

ok guys, from what i read this driveline bump im feeling can only be somewhat improved, not a total fix of the problem. is the driveline bump gonna lead to bigger problems down the road?

Unlikely. GM trucks (4WD ones IIRC) have had this issue as well. And as far as I know, other than being annoying, it has caused no issues.

Alot of school busses do this too. I rode them up till this year, it was most noticable on the early 2000 model freightliners with CAT engines. When slowing to a stop, it would jerk backward suddenly when it downshifted into first gear.

Some pretty sharp guys have figured out it was the programming.

I would never guess that frmo your description, though!
It should have stated that a slow speed downshift caused a clunk, NOT a braking thing.
