2008 F250

I have a 2008 F250 with a 6 speed Manual Transmission.I want to change the fluid in it but I don't know what to but back in it.Some one told me Automatic Transmission but not what kind,then I was told 80/90 weight and I knew that wasn't right.So if any one has done this before,could yopu cime in and help me out!

There should not be any reason to change transmission fluid for a 2008 manual.

You don't live in a cold climate, so it's not so much of an issue ... but whatever came in our ZF5 (you have ZF6) is HEAVY.

Can't shift the thing on cold mornings.

According to this chart, you should use "Full synthetic manual transmission fluid." Ford P/N WSD-M2C200-C.

With more googling, that fluid seems to be a synthetic 75W-90 GL-4.

Miller88, In the winter I can't just jump in it and take off i have to let it warm up or no it want shift at all.What would you put pack in it?

If it's the ZF S6-650 I have in my 04 F250, it takes Mercon V ATF. I did a drain/refill and it came out red so use MV.

Anyways you don't need to change it. From the factory it comes with a syn-blend so it should last.

Have you look in the owners manual in the service area? It should tell you some Ford ### code, which will translate into GL-4 gear lube or ATF fluid. It should also tell you the amount needed. On my car it has a big warning label to only use ATF Mercon Dexron III, but it is Tremec T-56.

The older 6-speeds did use Mercon V, but Ford changed to a different fluid in 2008 that is more like gear oil. I don't know if any off the self gear oil meets the spec though.

Go to Amsoil's website, type in the information about your truck, and it will tell you what Amsoil to use, and how much. Take that info to one of Amsoil contributors, and buy that Amsoil. You will not be disappointed.

And it isn't unreasonable for this man to be draining and filling his manual transmission on his 2008 truck. Gears shed the majority of wear metal within the first 10,000 miles, and that wear metal is very harmful to bearings. He might not have a transmission problem, but fluid changes help prevent them.

Besides, anybody who thinks manual transmissions don't fail does not know about an AWD Mitsubishi Eclipse or a 1979-1994 SAAB 900.

I have a 03' F350 DRW 6.0 PSD 4x4 6spd. It is a Zf-6. Mine takes ATF. I use RP Max atf as it is Mercon V compatiable. I have changed it every 2 years regardless of millage since new. They appear to be stout units. Mine has had 26 Round bales on a 45' trailer more times than I care to count. I NEVER grind it. EVER. my feelings are that it should never need replacement.
When pulling heavy, I remove both Edge fueling box AND my Sparten tuner. I try to pull with the least amount of power adders as possible. This helps keep my EGTs in check.
Those people that claim it never needs servicing because it's a hand shaker are just ignorant fools..period

Most people on here have little FWD cars and limited experience with 1-Tons pulling heavy. These people could give you advise that could damage your truck. read your owners manual, talk to your dealer, OH and visit us over at the dieselstop.com

ZF recommends of course a GL4 fluid. I had a very good experience with Redline MTL (70W80 viscosity) in my S5-42 in my 88 F350, when I had it.
Of course a Unimog isn't a Ford F250, but MB recommends trans fluid change every 2400 hrs (about 90K mi), or every 4 yrs, whichever sooner.
You can order Redline products online in any quantity you need.
I think ZF recommendations trump Ford, since ZF actually makes the S5-42, S5-47, and S6-65.
