I bought a used 2008 Buell Blast with 1300 miles on it in October and had the H-D/Buell dealership put H-D Screaming Eagle Syn 3 in both the engine and crankcase/transmission sump til I could do reasearch about different lube choices: here's my ???'s

1) what conventional 20w50 (aka: regular motor oil instead of more costly motorcycle oils) for the engine?

2) what lube for the crankcase/transmission sump that is compatible/works well sith the clutch pack?

thanks

I'll bet you'll out grow the bike before it needs another oil change. They are basicly starter bikes that are easy to ride and gain confidence on. Any way Valvoline mc oil is reasonably priced and has some good used oil analysis on here, and should do everything you'll need it to.,,

I think a lot of guys run valvoline vr1 20w50...should be much cheaper then motorcycles specific oil...hopefully someone else chimes in with buell experience..I've never ridden or worked on one

Valvoline VR1 in the engine. Redline 80 weight motorcycle gear lube with Shockproof for the trans. Nice bike BTW.. unusual to find one with that low miles on it.

thanks for answering; interesting story behind the bike...my 2 closest H-D/Buell dealers are owned by the same person & the Buell sat @ a used car lot across the street from one of the H-D dealers for @ 10 months; the used car lot is owned by a conglomerate that owns several dealerships & the Buell got moved to the used scooter/motorcycle section of my local Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia dealership and that is where I found it; I already owned a good Genuine scooter so I traded my Vespa LX 150 on the Buell and had some cash coming back to me;

I might outgrow the Buell by desire, but by finances it'll be my only motorcycle purchase for a few years to come...since I knew I was keeping it, I already invested in a new battery, new spark plug, new air filter, new boot that goes between the carbeurator and engine mainfold, new vacuum lines that pass through the airbox (excess oil that gets recirculated to be burned in the engine sat on top of the hoses and weakened them), a carbeurator cleaning, and autochoke diagnostic/idle resetting...you get the picture

hopefully the only major expense will be a new rear tire (I have a few months left on it)
