Todays pic of the cyl head for a gasket change on 2007 Ford Fusion 2.3. this engine now has 327 K (miles) and still runs great with only 6-8 oz of oil use in my normal 10K OCI. Still shows no sign of engine wear.

The 2.3 in my Mazda only has 157k… I need to do a valve cover gasket on it. Hope it looks good and last as long as yours!

I had the 2.0 in a 2007 zx3 focus.. it was a fun car weighing aprox as much as a golf cart and a stick shift.. no abs though.

It is. I also had a 2007 Focus with the 2.0 Duratech. Great small car however it was totaled when it only had 175K. Also my 2017 Fusion performs very well with 180K.

OMG! 10k OCIs on Xw20 is murder on engines! There’s barely even polishing on the lobes, and…. Eeek! A slight tan tint to engine parts that have run probably almost 10k hours!

Thanks tig. This should satisfy even @Bill7 that 20-weight oils, when properly formulated, can go long distance and easily eclipse 300k miles and still keep going!

I look after our son's 2009 Mazda5 with same engine (2.3 l Duratech). It's at c. 215K km (c. 133K miles) and going strong. I think the engine will outlast the body.

Edit: Watch out for the plastic coolant piece on the driver's side. That failed and caused coolant loss last year, but fortunately the engine seems fine.

I've been using 5-30 for 50K or so and I can't seem to notice any change.

Where I live, there are some small town taxi services using early 2000’s Ford LTD sedans with 400,000+ miles on them that have used 5W-20 oil their entire life. So I recognize and respect 20 weight oils.

But for my own vehicles, I prefer 5W-30 oils due to the higher HTHS and higher tolerance for extreme heat situations. All oil gets thinner as it gets hotter, so there is an extra Moft cushion when using 30 weight oils in severe service situations.

Actually the tan tint is not varnish, but residual oil that hasn't been wiped out.

I love my 2012 Fusion. It has the 3.0 and runs like a you know what. Pretty peppy for a 4 door family car.
