Van is for my 83 year old aunt. She bought it used, dont know how many miles, but it had 77,100 as of yesterday. She usually goes to the local Pennzoil Express Lube, where they charge her $45 for Pennzoil Conventional 5w20. I figured Id help her out, she liked the idea of going to Wal Mart and getting oil and a filter for under $20. Picked up a 5 qt jug of Mobil Super 5000 5w20 and a Motorcraft FL400S for $17 and some change. She does mainly short trips, 2-3 mile trips to Wal Mart and every few months a 150 mile round trip. figured id change it every 4k or every 6 months, which would be better? and no reason to step up to 5W30, right? van runs excellent.

Sounds like you won't get to near 4k in 6 months. I'd stretch it to 4500 miles or 9 months. Just me.

6 months should be a fine strategy with the FL 400S. Dont know what engine 4.2 or 3.9, but I would keep an eye on the transmission. Earlier years had a torque convertor recall that could ruin the transmission lots of info on the net about it. I wouldn't run any thicker than 5W20.
