I am looking to buy this truck with 127k on it, Question the owner uses 89 octane, can this engine run 87 octane with out any problems also how good is the 2007 hemi engine any problems love the truck!

Per the manual, 89 recommended but 87 is acceptable. I run the recommended 89, the cost difference between the 2 is $5 or less per fill up in my area.... paying for all that horsepower, might as well actually get all of it.

That truck has the “pre eagle” 5.7 hemi, so no variable cam timing. Overall they’re pretty good engines. They do have 16 spark plugs.

Yes thanks the truck was well maintained, he will sell it to me for 9k, it is a friend of my son it has a new rear differential, jasper rebuilt new water pump. new fan condenser, it does have some rot about the wheel wells which seems to be the normal for these trucks. Do you like your truck and juat wandering overall is this a good deal? Thanks for the reply !

2007 is the 2nd to last year of the 3rd Gen Ram, mine is a 4th Gen, so I can’t speak on the particulars of the one you’re looking at. I love my truck though.

I can tell you now -- if that truck is starting to rust -- its gonna get way worse sooner than you will like. Believe me -- I own an older Ram and know all to well. So, figure the money your gonna add to the 9 grand your paying for it to start with for body work and paint.

I’d run 89 in it but that’s just me I never run regular gas in anything. I have heard good things on these engines a lot of people like them. Also did you end up buying it?

Those early Gen III Hemi engines have issues with dropping valve seats in the LX cars, not sure if the truck engines back then got the same heads or not. Would be worth investigating if your buying a used one.

They will run fine on 87 octane. Any WOT operation will likely be a few (peak) HP lower than if running 89, but you won’t feel the difference.

If you take it to the track to run a 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile race, put 89 or 93 in it. Otherwise, it’s not a noticeable difference to run 87.
