This is the annual oil change for my GTO. I decided to use PP on this change to see how it was compared to M1 5w30 which it had for previous runs.

My overall impression was negative for the PP, engine was noticeably louder when running it compared to M1 and the numbers don't look great either.

Not sure whether I should be concerned with iron as I don't put too much stock in wear metals in these UOA's and the car does sit for long periods of time between use.

Well I love PP but I have got to say I would be probably going back to M1. You would really know if you did at least two OCI's to have the car flushed totally of M1. If you didn't like the way it was driving though, I would just go back.

Which issue?

This vehicle does sit for extended periods of time. The only point worth mentioning is that these two OCI's saw nearly identical use, mileage, time, and amount of sitting.

As I mentioned in my first comment, I don't want to put too much stock in wear metal counts in a $25 UOA but that combined with how terrible the engine sounded with the PP leads me to believe it may genuinely not have been protecting the engine properly.

For what it's worth it has GC in it now although it may have M1 0w40 in it long term.

High metals...his car sits often, just like yours.

Though he enjoys driving it though..

In a car that does little other than sit for long periods, I'd use a 10w30 HDEO - they control corrosion much better.

...mind you, if I had a GTO, I'd drive it a lot more than this - that's kinda what perfromance cars are built for, y'know...?

Do they make any HDEO's that meet the 4718 spec? I'd consider switching if they do.

Yep, wasted $$ on an invalidated "test".
