Im glad I changed it the insols were kind of high and vis was low. Add levels were lower than I expected for factory fill too.

I dont idle this thing much, it gets mostly highway miles. Im averaging 200 miles a day right now (2300 miles already).

5 qts of Pennzoil 5w30, 1 qt of Synergyn 3w30 and a Pure One on there now. Hopefully the wear will come down nicely over time. I really like this engine.

Save yourself the expense and don't do an analysis for a couple of UOA's. Having said that, I didn't take that advice.

Al- You are right but I dont know if Ill be able to resist.

Ray- I dont know why they put 15w40 I assume it was 5w30.

Yes it was real hot, no I didnt bother to cut open the filter, but there is a magnetic drain plug and it had a good amount of shavings on it.

Im not going to pass any judgements on the fuel yet.

Well I managed to control myself and I changed my oil today without taking a sample. I went 2K miles on 5 qts Pennzoil 5w30 and 1 qt Synergyn 3w30 with a Pure one.

There was a lot less metal on the magnetic drain plug this time.

I put in 4 qts Pennzoil 10w30 and 2 qts Pennzoil 5w30 with an ACDelco Pf46, made in USA. Im going to go another 2k, sample, and start to extend intervals from there.

If I cant get the results I want from the regular Pennzoil (7-10k drains) I will have to try something else.

I have a ton of LC and FP here that I might throw in, but I have never seen any evidence that it does/helps anything, via my UOAs. When I do use it I will do it in a semi controlled way.

I have had excellent results with Shell Rotella Synth 5w40, but for some reason Im wary of using a diesel/gas oil in such a new engine. Id really like to use it if I can any thoughts?

I think I would go to Rotella Synth 5w40 or maybe try a semi synth or the highmileage pennz first. I got two 5 dollar coupons for the high maleage and the semisynth so Ill probably try them.

I have had good luck with Shell RTS. The zinc levels are not that high and it is SL rated.

A lot of metal shavings on the drain plug? Jeez, GM needs to get it together.

I just changed it again at 5300 mi (2300 on oil) I waited too long to catch the sample though and only got the end of the drain. I wonder if it is worth sending in. Havoline 10w40SM with 2oz SX-UP and an M1 filter this time.

Hi, I'd love to get a oil analysis done on my Chevy Express 04 with 17K miles on it. I purchased it with 7K miles from a dealer (Demo van), using dino oil but I switched to Mobile 1. I'd also like to get a trans analysis.

I'm a complete dumb@# however...who does the used oil analysis? Is there a web site someone can send me to?
