I have a 2005 Suburban Z-71 with 99k miles.

The past few months, the power steering system groans sometimes when at very low speeds (1-10 mph) between 1000-2000 rpm. Usually leaving from a stoplight, making a low speed turn in neighborhood or parking lot, etc.

Some days it does not groan at all. Other days, it groans a lot. It groans in short bursts (1-4 seconds long).

I flushed the P/S system completely with 6qts of new power steering fluid I had in my garage, (2 qts Prestone, 2 qts Pyroil, 2 qts Valvoline MaxLife).

The noise has not gone away, and a few days ago, the noise was worse.

Your thoughts as to what the problem is please.

Thanks

I have used Honda Power Steering Fluid in many GM P/S units with good success. Not saying that this will cure the groan that you're experiencing but, it sure wont hurt the system any! Give it a try and wait a week or so for it to work properly before you give it a thumbs up/down

Good luck!

I have a 2003 Sierra I bought new.

- Original GM power steering fluid: No Groan.

- Valvoline SynPower Power Steering Fluid: Groans.

- Amsoil ATF: No Groan.

There you go.
