The rear diff on my 2005 Suburban 1500 is in need of a fluid change. It has the RPO code G80, but is it a mechanical locker or LS? I need to know if it requires any friction modifier, and I don't want to put in some LS additve if it is an Eaton.

You have a Eaton Gov-Loc, No LS additive needed, Though I run Mobil 1 75w-90 LS in my 11.5" Gov-Loc with no issues.

Ive wondered about this, since most have the LS additive.

Go to auto zone and get the demo synthetic for 5.99. It's been cheaper than Dino for 2 years.

Good tip. But when I was looking it up it said that it's non-automotive. Does that matter?

You'll find a lot of discussion about this buried back in the forum if you search it right.
If I remember correctly, and I might be wrong, the locker doesn't require EXTRA friction modifier like a limited-slip would. I don't think that means it requires a fluid with NO FM, because the unit does have a type of clutch plates. They just don't do the same thing as the clutches in a limited-slip rear.
Amsoil Severe Gear, which includes some FM, is working fine in my 2001.

It doesn't need anything special. Just change it once in a while and it will last the life of the vehicle.

Nope, No difference from the Factory Fill or the Royal Purple Max Gear I had in it before the Mobil 1.
