Car is a 2005 WRX STi and see's all kinds driving, lots of short 5 mile trips back and forth to work, spirited runs, and a few track days a year. Factory manual suggests a 5-30 wieght.

Any suggestions on what oil to use?

I think Castrol 0w30 (GC) or Mobil 1 turbo diesel truck 5w-40 would be a good choice for your sti.

According to the manual you can use up to a 10w-50 no? There are a bunch of recent threads on Subie's and after reading those I would use a 40w for sure.

I have some left over Mobil 1 0w-40 from my previous car. I might give that a shot. I remember burning a lot of it off though...

Factory manual specifically suggests 5w30 for fuel economy and thicker grades are required for high temps and severe conditions.

No further recommendations as there are a bunch of good ones. The only xW-30's I would run are Red Line, or something ACEA A3 rated (GC, some Motul's). Other than that, xW-40 IMO.

So I put Mobil 1 0w-40 in. I haven't driven it yet, but just at idle the engine is quieter as it is ticking less. We'll see how it goes.
