Today, after 39300 miles, just for the fun of it, I decided to change my oil to synthetic for the first time and I used Pennzoil
Platinum 5w30, with the blue OEM Hyundai oil filter.
My Elantra is the GLS, garage kept, and MINT condition. It may be very well the nicest 2005 Elantra on the road. I have always
be doing 5000 OCI, with Motorcraft Syn Blend 5W-20 and OEM filter. The car runs beautifully and I have been getting fine
gas mileage.
So, I thought let me see if a full synthetic will really provide any real increase in gas mileage.
I have two questions......
1. I plan to run this oil for 7000 miles, will the OEM filter
be good to 7000 miles, or will have have to do a filter
ONLY change half way??
2. Did I waste my money using the Pennzoil Platinum and see
NO difference at all in mileage and protection??
I do a lot of short trip driving and have a 9 mile commute to
work in the suburbs with a fair amount of stop and go traffic.
Thank you!
