The owners manual says you do not have to change the transmission fluid BUT,,, we plan on keeping it for another 6-7 years....What type of fluid, and, is it time to change now?????
Have the transmission "flushed" with 16 quarts of ATF+4. While a fluid change is not required, ~60k is a good conservative interval for most transmissions.

Just because the transmissions are problematic does not mean that fluid changes will prolong its life. ATF+4 is a very durable fluid and can retain its frictional properties for over 100k. The failures may or may not be related to the fluid.
You can use dextron in the older transmissions, get a black bottle of Lubegard and you can get it at certain parts stores. The Lubegard black turns the dextron into the Chrysler fluid.I know a transmission shop that does this, with no comebacks at all.I do not like the pan gaskets in the filter kits, they leak and are bad design.Plus the pan gaskets are scrunched up and hard to straighten out.
Chrysler even does approve of Lubegard. There is something inside the Lubegard that turns Dextron into the ATF+4 fluid.I know my father and I do this with Dextron pouring in a bottle of Lubegard black in the older transmissions
