2002 Trans-Am T56 Oil question

Hey guys,

Have a 2002 Trans am, T56 - I am getting ready to dump the DexIII thats been in there a while, given I have 240,000 KM - and its only used from April-Oct on nice days, given the fact its a 2002 with the carbon blockers, I have some options.

I am leaning towards Amsoil Torque Drive, or Amsoil Syncromesh

Any suggestions or thoughts.

Hey! What would be your choice for a higher mileage stock 2002 T56 out of those? It is in an Fbody, from what I ready I assume 2002 has the carbon blockers.

Personally I would require a GL4 or GL5 rated MTF for any manual transmission and that rules out most of the ATF options.

I've had good experience with:
Red Line - MTL / MT85
Amsoil - MTF
John Deere - HyGard LV

Yes that is a weakness. No Amsoil warranty of your 25 year old MT. But that's rather a weak point so to speak at this point. I think MTF will give the best shift feel and remaining life, but this is never guaranteed because of subjectivity and history/existing wear.

We have seen/read about - people can use the same (any) MTF in the exact same transmission across North America and the reaction is from complete love to "get that juice out ASAP".

100% - I can imagine if I was lower mileage, or a pre 2000 unit OR drove it colder weather it may not be a fit, but I agree, with some age and only warm weather use the MTF is likely a better choice, and Id imagine would even help reduce some bearing/gear noise due to being thicker

I put the Royal Purple syncromax in my T-6060, totally eliminated a 2nd gear "notch" it had when going into 2nd.

I didn't tell my Wife that I changed the tranny oil, she drove it to work one day and sent me a txt saying "what did you do to the shifter, feels so much smoother"

I'm sure amsoil makes some good oil for it. On my 2007 corvette with the T56 6 speed I use the Red Line D4 it shifts slightly smoother than the factory fill Dexron 3 that was not bad. Just my experience
