Our 2002 Rav4 needs atf t-IV fluid. Walmart has atf-4 in stock. Is this the same fluid that the Toyota dealers has? Can we use the Wally World atf-4 in our Rav4? Thanks for your time..

No, it takes Toyota T-IV fluid. You can purchase it from a dealership for less than $5.00/qt or use Amsoil or Specialty Formulation's equivalent product.

Valvoline MaxLife ATF is the only other over-the-counter product that is T-IV compatible.

There are others.
I've seen mention T-IV on the Castrol multivehicle ATF and Valvoline Mercon-V. Pennzoil multivehicle is another choice.

Mobil1 ATF(now a multivehicle) might be another option. And, any dexronIII mixed with lubegard or smartblend can be used.

Do not use Valvoline Mercon-V! I called their technical support department and they only recommend their MaxLife product for servicing; blue bottle Mercon-V is for top-up only.

Mobil 1 ATF needs Lubegard HFM Supplement to work correctly, and it's probably the best over-the-counter combination you can find, short of Amsoil ATF.

I rather use Mercon-V over Maxlife any day. And, if shift quality isn't as good as expected, dose the lubegard HFM or Platinum.

And, around here during the winter, even the MV blends are nothing to brag about when compared to Mobil1 and Redline.

Castrols MV is their ATF+3/ATF+4 fluid. I'd wager that any ATF+4 would work fine in place of T-IV.
