There are many sensor readings that could be flaky enough to cause driveability issues without triggering the AT light or CEL In my limited experience, shifting hard is better than slipping and ruining the remaining friction surfaces.
You may need to take the car to a shop that specializes in 350Z/G35/G37 cars or possibly a shop that specializes in Nissan/Infiniti trucks. Someone who will have had lots of experience either building these to handle more power, or repairing them after someone cooked them at the track or in the mud. Maybe this guy is one of them?
250K isn't a bad life out of an auto transmission behind a high RPM 350hp V8 in a heavy car. I'm a couple of years from that mileage, and I'm already trying to get an idea of who will be able to work on it when it breaks.

Sure sounds like I need to find someone who knows these transmissions. Been on a few other forums and not getting anywhere with this issue.
