I have a friend who traded her beat to [censored] 05 Cobalt for a nice clean 2000 Passat 2.8L V6.

So I know the 4 cyl VW motors had sludge issues. What about the V6 version? Any recommendations on oil for this thing?

Something electrical will kill that car long before something lubrication related does.

That being said I'd go with Mobil 1 0w-40. Even if the car doesn't need a 40-weight oil it'll certainly meet whatever spec that engine needs.

I know it does not meet the 502 specs but would Rotella T6 hurt to use in this thing? Its out of warranty. Just wondering if there is something about T6 that would not provide enough cleanliness or protection.

Im going to end up changing the oil on this beast. Im a sucker for a pretty face. LOL

She is a single mother, putting herself through school, just trying to keep her car going and save her a few bucks.

The dealership she bought it from.....a Ford one.....just changed the oil. How much to you want to bet they threw 5w30 motorcraft in?

Or 5W20 MC.

Its a big enough dealership that I hope they didnt do that. If they sell Shelby GT500's and stock 5w50 oil, I am betting they have the 5w30 that the older fords and some of the eco boost engines spec.

I would've kept the Colbalt. It's a better Daily Driver. I hope your friend has extra money laying around when the electronics start acting up. This is from a VW guy.

Just use Mobil 1 0W-40.

She went and did this without bringing me along. There was a very very nice 2.4L Camry she could have gotten at almost the same price.
