2000 Silverado 1500 2WD oil pan removal

I have 230,000 miles on my Chevy 5.3 and have what I think is a oil pan gasket leak. Inspection hole in bellhousing tells me the rear main seal is good and dry. Not a bad leak, but is blowing oil over time on my exhaust pipe behind the pan. I replaced the oil cooler bypass plate gasket thinking that might be leaking, but that wasn't it. Oil filter always had oil on outside and bypass was right above it. I've heard there is a special procedure to get the alignment correct since the oil pan is a structural support to the transmission. I try to do almost everything at home, so I was hoping this would be a fix I could handle in my driveway. I just heard it is very important to get the alignment exact. Any advice would be much appreciated.

This should be similar to your truck, minus the cradle stuff.

Seems to me there is nothing special to it, I do not think the pan is structrual to the transmission. I have not seen one like that. The transmission does not attach to it.

i have done several 4.3 oil pans without any special tools. Biggest thing is follow torque sequence EXACTLY and you will be fine. Not a bad job at all.
