Hi guys...this car is in the shop for a good going over including a trans service, brake check, thermostat replacement,etc. I picked it up for my sister and am trying to get everything flushed (including the power steering...fluid looks like junk...turkey basting and replacing with Redline PS fluid...will repeat 3-4 times). I think a cooling flush would be a good idea. The LIM was replaced at a GM dealership about 15,000 miles ago (car has 87K). I have no idea if the dealer flushed the system when they performed that repair or not. It's hard to tell the condition of the antifreeze what condition it's in and my head is spinning from trying to get advice from reading the posts here. A local shop will flush and refill the system with "all makes all models" antifreeze (DexCool would be extra!). I don't know what the implications with compatibility is with this stuff (don't know much about it, frankly). Is this stuff OK for this and do these flush machines do a good job? I don't want to spend money for something that won't work or might make things worse...appreciate any advice.

when we rebuild those engines we use either go-5 or green prestone
I would stay clear of the dex cool if you take the radiator cap off a cold engine and put your finger inside you will see the sludge on the sides

You are on the right track by flushing all fluids on a used vehicle.
Do all of them.

If the dealer replaced the manifold gaskets, they would have used Dex Cool.
If 2 years have passed since the LIM was replaced, then I would flush the coolant.

I appreciate the input but am still wondering whether these flush machines are effective and remove all of the old coolant (as well as flushing the heater core). I remember getting this done on my PT Cruiser and brought my own G-05 coolant and distilled water. The shop guy simply added my coolant and water to the machine before refilling.
I think coolant exchanger machines are very effective. They're almost a necessity for GM vehicles with inaccessible block drains and are factory recommended.
Dexcool is OK, but it really only works well in a pressurized reservoir system. Since you have your gasket replaced, really sludge is the main concern with Dexcool. You could go with g-05 or Zerex or Peak original Green.

I heard that before that green = dexcool but i have never had a problem with the green in over 24 years of owning an engine shop unless something changed recently

I just did my 3800 Buick ran it until all I got was clear water out of it, filled it with Prestone all makes and models and distilled water, ran it for a day, drained it and filled it with Prestone all makes and models and distilled water again. I just got done doing the LIM gaskets, replaced them with the Aluminum framed ones. Car runs brand new now. Time will tell how this coolant works.
