One Honda A01 has 4000 miles on it and the other has 6000 miles.. Take a look both Valvoline MaxLife.

Im very satisfied with the A01s I know when I changed the oil on the filter with 4K miles I knew it was changing it early... However look how perfect the 6000 mile filter is...
other then it being a lil more dirty its perfect...

Look how good it held up.

inside is perfect.

I thought this was SLUDGE at first .. then i noticed it was the bonding agent / glue used and it does a great job..

the bypass valve perfect....

I have to say the HONDA Filtech A01s are top notch filter.
and there is more filter media then meets the eye.. Its like each pleat is dual layered

I wish they still mass produced this.. Or I wish the A02 didnt replace it...

Clearly this is better filter then a A02.. ** NOT SAYING THE A02 is bad**
I dont want anyone to think im saying the A02 is bad or no good.
I have used the A02 and they do a good job.

enjoy the pics... tell me what you think.

Are these the spec S2000 filters...? Or is that something different again?

Anyone know what the by-pass valve psi setting is on these, or the A02's is...?

I think.. I could be wrong but I think they diff but just the fitting..

however the filter is the same..

and bypass i think is 12 psi

Hello, BOLD new look to "opened filter" photography. Great post.
An Oscar nomination for the bypass spring photo.

I can't help but think there's little but construction QA to be guessed at from filter pictures.
That filter seemed very well made; exactly what my Volvo's MANN, Mahle and OE element looks like.
Purolaters are yellow paper. Driveworks are white and fuzzy.

That filter is not a S2000 oil filter. The S2000 filter is larger in diameter and it will have numbers(1234...) around the outside of the filter. That is because the S2000 oil filter has a certain way on how tight to put the filter on so it won't back off. The bypass is over 20psid on a S2000 oil filter.

WOW THAT filter did a good job.. not sure that filter is made for that kinda mileage.
perhaps on a very well maintained / clean engine.

And one at 10K

Although the pictures aren't as good as you guys.

I wonder what that filter is rated at?

is it a 7k oil filter or a 5k oil filter??

I mean Im surprised no one has one with 15k on one.

I have never seen a post of a messed up or defective Honda A01

Right now I have a boesh distance plus on my car that i got a great deal on.

The FSM for my Civic says that the oil should be changed every 10,000 miles and the filter every other interval, so Honda evidently feels it is good for 20,000.

Yep, same with all my Hondas, they say to replace the filter every other OC, I've had no problem doing exactly that.

OMG there's NO endcap!! OMG, OMG, OMG...

That's one beautiful filter. I love the pleat to pleat bonding! Never seen that before. Is the pleat bonding on both ends?

Just a perfect looking filter. Definitely be on my list for the soob if it was easily obtainable up north.

Toyota Denso filters made in Thialand have the same "no-end cap" design. Each pleat is supposed to be sealed/glued at the end.

If you try to open up the end of the pleats, are they sealed/glued?

the pics are top notch--high quality--no argument there--Question is, why would you choose to use a filter with a 60% efficiency rating while you could have any number of filters with >90% efficiency?

A better question is this...

Why does Honda...? Higher flow... cheaper... 60% is more than adequate...?

It seems strange that so many people obsess over efficiency specs, but the company that builds and warranties the engine doesn't...

And why would a company like WIX, a filtration company, build their premium XP synthetic media filter, and intentionally give it such a "poor..." efficiency specs...?

Maybe extreme high efficiency filters are actually BAD...?

Well, the filter for probably the longest lasting gas engine in the world, the Fl-820S, actually has pretty decent efficiency. Perhaps due to the tiny filter size Honda chooses, they have to compromise on the flow/efficiency ratio or it would constantly be bypassing?

So what happens when you put on an equally tiny... but very high efficiency filter, like a Fram Ultra...?

Fram Ultras flow very well because they are full synthetic media. Also, I highly doubt any major filter manufacturer that has a real engineering department is going to sell a filter that is going to cause any engine damage, as they are responsible for engine damage if the filter is the cause.

Just because an oil filter is high efficiency doesn't automatically mean it's flow restrictive. You can have both high efficiency and very good flow if you use the right media and use enough of it (ie, right amount of flow area).
