ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Two teenage girls who worked at a nursing home have been charged with abuse, accused of taunting, spitting on and groping the breasts and genitals of residents who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and other dementia disorders.

According to the criminal complaint, filed Monday, 19-year-old Brianna Broitzman and 18-year-old Ashton Larson laughed earlier this year as they spat in residents' mouths, poked and grabbed them, and at times mocked them until they screamed.

Broitzman and Larson, who worked as part-time aides at the home, have been charged as adults.

No one answered the phone Thursday morning at Broitzman's home. There was no information in court records on attorneys for either teen.

Complaint: Eight teens involved
Four other teens who worked with them at the Good Samaritan Society were charged as juveniles for failing to report the incidents.

A total of eight teens were allegedly involved in the incidents, but there was no record of criminal charges being filed against two of them.

Broitzman and Larson are charged with assault, abuse of a vulnerable adult by a caregiver, abuse of a vulnerable adult with sexual contact, disorderly conduct and failing to report suspected maltreatment. All are gross misdemeanors.

If found guilty, Broitzman and Larson "most likely will face suspended jail sentences and probation, so they'd have the threat of jail hanging over them if they get in more trouble," Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Department of Health released a report in August showing that 15 residents with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia disorders were abused at the facility between Jan. 1 and May 1.

Group allegedly laughed about incidents
According to the complaint filed Monday, one of the aides said the group gathered at work or school to "talk and laugh about the incidents."

Mark Anderson, administrator at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, told WCCO-TV that the past few months have been difficult for the staff, the home's residents and their families.

"We are just really thankful that the proceedings are moving forward and hopefully can see some closure to this whole process," Anderson said.

I'm sure there are some women in prison who would love to have some time w/ cute little suburban honeys like that. lock 'em up!

Give'em to me first. I got other ways to punish them.

evil little whores, they need a good spanking.....on a serious note what they did is just plain dispicable, my grandmother is in a nursing home and if she was treated like this there would be some serious doo doo go down

You would be surprised at how many young women will behave like that for no apparent reason.

When My sons were that age they referred to them a phyco-b!tches and passed their names around between friends..

The disparity in power causes this behavior. It has relatively little to do with the parties involved. Google "Stanford prison experiment" for more, or just glance at the first page here Prison Experiment dot org

If that were true, every place where there was a disparity of power would be like that. But not every place with a disparity of power is like that.

That type of behavior exists where "management" condones or encourages it. Where "management" doesn't condone or encourage it it is the exception.

Management in that case was the little princesses parents who did a lousy job of raising them and the people who ran the facility.

Or, you can just boil it down to the fact that some people really are evil, and the rest aren't. There's plenty of genuinely good people who have the need for power.

I'd imagine these two have more skeletons in their closet no one knows about.

the father of Ashton Larson in the photo said "Ashton was just doing her job, the press has overblown this" did he read what his sweet princess does? the police report with full description is on the smoking gun website

They videotaped and took photos of this stuff too. kinda reminds me of the military who took photos of themselves humilating Iraqis.

The sad things is that long term care facilities are full of workers like this. My grandmother had to live in a nursing home for the remaining 10 or so years of her life and it was just plain sad. No quality of life what-so-ever. We were in a way grateful when she passed. No more just "existing". Prior to that, we bought her a house just a block from us and cared for her as long as we could. We spent almost as much time there as we did our house when I grew up.

some of the stuff was like sticking a finger up an elderly person's nose and mouth until they screamed. hitting an elderly men in the genitals, spanking them, and harassing them. see what you guys have to look forward to when you go into a nursing home? dreaded awful.

Ashton Larson's father confirmed my suggestion that parents were part of the problem. You have human trash raising human trash. In this case it looked like financially well off trash.

The picture taking is an indication that there was no meaningful oversight or that the behavior was actually encouraged. I suspect that in the nursing home, the problem was a don't give a [censored] attitude of the near minimum wage supervisors rather than actual encouragement like in Abu Ghraib.

Their actions will be judged by the society they spurn.
Their souls shall be judged by He who sees all.

Either way, it doesn't look good for these two women.

when i get old I am going to drive into the desert and take no water and just do that instead of going to a nursing home.

Management condones and/or encourages behaviors of their subordinates to a given degree eo ipso, or else it wouldn't make much sense to consider them "management", I think.

Wild extrapolations about how a puzzle came together will probably not bag you good a assessment of the situation. Sometimes it makes for interesting conversation though.

Many people don't realize that and "management" often doesn't realize what behaviors it is encouraging and rewarding.
