I accidentally put 2 cycle oil in my garden tractor. Do I need to drain the oil and put engine oil in it?

If it's in the sump then yes I'd drain it out. What color is your 2 stroke? Don't think I've ever seen a pale to brown one like motor oil. like. The supertech I use is a nice dark blue.

I think most 2 stroke oils are a 20 or a 30 wt. Shouldn't hurt anything as long as you get it out asap. It can lube an engine @50:1 a whole bunch in a sump should work ok .
I’ve thought the same before. It would be an interesting experiment to run a four stroke engine exclusively with two stroke oil and see how long it lasts. Who wants to sacrifice an engine?

Truth be told I’m a little surprised Project Farm hasn’t done this.

Additive amounts can be different from 4 stroke. I'd replace w/the proper oil in your GT.

Valvoline says:
"Therefore, it contains different ingredients than two-stroke oils. Four-stroke oils have a higher concentration of additives. These include detergents, dispersants, anti-wear substances, pour point depressants, and foam retardants."

If it already burns immense amounts of oil where you add a large amount every use…. Lol

Yes get it out of there unless it’s a sacrificial engine.

I have heard people muse about adding 2 cycle synthetic as top off oil on 4 strokes that burns tons of oil but I can’t imagine it does anything good.

I've done it. 250 six in a Chevelle back in the late '70's. Burnt a piston in sub zero weather on the way home from the NY ADK's towing a snowmobile trailer. Blow by pumped out oil like crazy. Only had 2 stroke oil to get 30 miles to the next service area for regular oil. Motor was spent anyway. It stayed together for another 200 miles to get me home in NJ on 5 cylinders avoiding a big towing bill. And drove it 30 miles to my buddy's bigger garage to swap motors a couple days later.
It freed up a noisy lifter also.
Just drain it an put the right stuff in, it will be fine.

How much 2-stroke are we talking about vs the capacity of the crank case?? If it was one of those little 6.4-oz bottles or less, I'd probably not worry about it you're changing the oil every 50 hours or so anyway. If you put in a quart or more that's an entirely different story. My nephew accidentally topped off his Troy Bilt with a 6.4 oz bottle of Amsoil Saber last year. When I checked Amsoil's web page for the chemical characteristics, the viscosity was similar to a 15W-40 so I told him to not worry about the hassle of draining but that he probably didn't want to do it again..
