Hi,
I recently replaced the original power steering pump in my 97 Saturn SC1 with a "reman" from Oreilly Auto and it leaked from the back cover within the first day. Now I just put another pump in today and it is leaking in a different way - much more fluid loss and from the front seal. I'm I buying junk parts or is something(rack?) making these pumps fail?

I check the reservoir and fittings and they are not leaking.
I removed, degreased and reinstalled the pump each time to pinpoint the leak.

There is nothing in a power steering rack that could cause seals to blow out or degrade in the pump/pump housing/pump seals unless the pump is faulty too. Sounds like bad parts. Try somewhere else that uses a different brand.

These were Cardone reman pumps.

I hope they don't expect me to put another one in and waste more time. I also now need a core so they need to refund me the pump and let me keep the pump.

IMO A1/Cardon must be the worst rebuilder there is. I've never had the 1st whatever I got from them work the 1st time. Always had to get a 2nd or 3rd.

Now I just won't buy them.

Do you expect Oriely's to pay you for your time?

Is it a lifetime warranty pump? Just let them know before you buy a new one that you'll be returning one under warranty.

I don't want them to expect me to put in a third pump of this brand.

I can't give them the pump back as I now need a core, they shipped my old one out.

+1 I put a Cardone rebuilt rear wiper motor in my Expedition and it failed right away, the second lasted 3 days and the third didn't work at all.
Rock auto had new Motorcraft units on close out for 2 bucks cheaper,i bought the MC and got my $ back for the Cardone,no further problems whatsoever.

I also have had problems with Cardone PS pumps for my '92 Lumina. The problem I was having was leaks at the high pressure hose fitting.

After the second leaky pump, I compared it with the original (seal leak) and found that the fitting on the leakers had a different config than the original (these are those o-ringed hose fittings).

I finally go a hold of an ACDelco rebuild and this one had a fitting identical to the original one. Until a year later when it developed a whine. A few oz of Berryman B-7 fixed (bandaged) this issue.

Just cut to the chase and buy factory OE.

I'm sick and tired of reman these days, citing pathetic quality and such (Cardone is the name I'd stay away from, so are a few others).

X2. I went through 7 reman distributors on the same car with them.

bottomline: you get what you pay for so if you are cheep, you get cheep in return.

Again, some auto joes may vote for their wallet/money but I only vote for best quality possible. Afterall: what good is it (even though warranty is being honoured) when you have a power steering pump (reman) that constantly fail on you when a high quality reman or fresh OE new pump can last you for years or even decades to come?

Q.
